It’s been a minute…

Ever have an interruption that makes it hard to get back to a normal rhythm? So, not long after we launched Tapestry in 2023 I went and broke my neck in two places. Yep. Fractures in two cervical vertebrae. I’m not telling you this to upstage whatever interruption you thought of. And I’m not looking for some specific response (pity, shock, awe…). I just wanted you to know I (and we at Tapestry) have been there, too. Whatever has taken you out of the game, whatever has made it hard to get back into a healthy rhythm (or establish one to begin with), I understand.

We are about to start a new rhythm. In the past we used video to tell our stories. In the future we plan to focus on conversations captured in our podcast. We’ll be releasing weekly conversations. Each one will be around half an hour, and usually three in a row will be on one topic. We address a real world issue from a spiritual perspective. One thing that makes this special is that you can jump in! If you hear something you want to talk with us about, join the conversation on Discord.

Here’s the idea: have you ever had one of those conversations that goes surprisingly deep? Maybe it’s with a stranger. Or with an acquaintance with whom you find more in common than expected. Or maybe it’s with an old friend who you never thought of as “that kind of friend”. However it happened, maybe that conversation turned to matters of spirituality or faith, and maybe you learned something or shared something you never thought about before.

That’s what we hope to capture with the Tapestry Podcast.

You get to listen in on one of those conversations. Then, if you want, you can join in. Maybe we’ll all find that we have more in common, are more deeply connected, than we ever imagined.

(p.s. I’m doing great. My neck bones have healed, my nerve damage is improving, and I can do all the things I love)

What is this? (the meta post)

It all begins with an idea.

So, you might be wondering what Tapestry is all about. Me too. I mean, we’re on this journey together creating something that we haven’t really seen before. We expect we’ll have to make all sorts of changes and adjustments as we go, but here’s the spirit of the thing…

The team that’s launching this thing comes from a church in Colorado. We all live in the Denver metro area. We are connected through Broomfield United Methodist Church, and we have all sorts of different experiences with faith, spirituality, and church. We also have many friends who love having conversations about spirituality, but aren’t really interested in church. And we think that’s great. We aren’t interested in getting anyone to believe what we believe or show up at our church on a Sunday (or any day) or give anyone money. We want to create space for those conversations. The meaningful ones. The ones that are hard to have in certain spaces.

The internet seems like a pretty good place to create a space like this. Anyone from anywhere can join the conversation. We don’t need to be there at the same time. We can use all sorts of platforms and tools. But the internet can also be a pretty dark place. People can be mean, or worse. We want to bring everyone to the table for great conversations, but we also want everyone to play nice! We hope that isn’t too much to ask. We’re about to find out.

The name Tapestry comes from the idea that every life, every relationship, every community, is woven from innumerable threads of every color and shape, and they all come together to tell a story, to create a beautiful picture. If you’ve ever looked at the back of a tapestry, you saw that they’re really messy. That’s part of the deal. The beauty and the mess exist together. Every thread is part of the story, but no single thread tells the whole story.

Our plan is to use short-form videos, long-form podcasts, and really really short-form (like Tik Tok or Reels) content to spark conversation about topics connected to spirituality and faith. All the threads of our experiences and ideas will come together to make what we hope will be engaging, interesting content that makes you want to add your own threads to the Tapestry.

Our first season is about Identity. You’ve got one (or more) of those, so turn up your curiosity knob and get ready to help us weave something beautiful
